2011 Symphony in the Flint Hills Field Journal, Volume III
The 2011 Field Journal, as featured in The Kansas City Star magazine on July 3, 2011, is still available for purchase from our on-line store for $16. Our Field Journal is packed full of thoughtful articles and many colorful illustrations relating to the archaeology, natural life, social history, biographical history, music, arts, and poetry of the Flint Hills. This book will be a permanent reminder of the musical program, the guest artists, the physical place, and the many people who make the June event an experience not to be forgotten. (Kansas City Star article)
The Sixth Anniversary edition focuses on “Freedom’s Frontier: The Story.” During the 150th anniversary of Kansas statehood and The Civil War, the Symphony in the Flint Hills organization is proud to partner with Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area. Together, we present the many stories relating to the Missouri/Kansas border, a geography that witnessed unprecedented violence between Americans just prior to the Civil War. These stories provide critical insight into our national value of individual freedom.
